NEWS CENTER - Speaking at the public meeting within the scope of "Social Peace and Freedom Meetings", DBP Co-Chair Cigdem Kilicgun Ucar called on all political parties, intellectuals and writers to have a say and practice on the Kurdish issue.
The public meetings organised by the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) under the slogan “Social Peace and Freedom Meetings” continue. Merdîn (Mardin), Mûş (Muş) and Erzirom (Erzurum) were the three cities where the meetings took place today.
The programme in Merdîn started with a moment of silence in memory of those who lost their lives in the struggle for freedom and democracy. Then DBP Co-Chair Cigdem Kilicgun Ucar spoke.
Referring to the war and developments in the Middle East, Cigdem Kilicgun Ucar said that the Kurdish people were discussing their own rights and the principles within which they would realise their future. She noted that all governments in Turkey have instrumentalised the Kurdish issue for many years and that a struggle is being waged against this.
Cigdem Kilicgun Ucar drew attention to MHP Chair Devlet Bahçeli's hand out to DEM Party members, the developments that followed and the talks of the DEM Party İmralı Delegation with PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan and said, "A democratic, lasting and honourable peace in the Kurdish issue is not a process that can only be implemented by talking and making demands from the rostrums in the Parliament. There are many inspections in the world, there are peace and solutions that have emerged in many countries with serious labour."
Cigdem Kilicgun Ucar said that an exemplary model for the whole world has emerged in North and East Syria, Rojava and added: "HTS has been what the peoples in Syria have been subjected to."
Referring to Turkey's meeting with HTS leader Ahmet Shara, Cigdem Kilicgun Ucar said: "What is the obstacle to summon Mazloum Abdi, the commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces? There is no obstacle. Therefore, there is a need to talk about the Kurdish issue, the Kurdish issue in a fundamental way. Who will have a substantive dialogue? Firstly, the political parties in the parliament. This is not a process that can only be carried out by the government. It is not a process that can be left there. It should not be a process in which only our demands will be voiced."
Cigdem Kilicgun Ucar stated that the Kurdish identity was given up in the Parliament in 1924 and that Abdullah Öcalan therefore pointed to the Parliament as the most important address.
Stressing that the whole of Turkey has been left breathless with the practices of the government, and that the prisons that the Kurds are subjected to have an impact on the whole of Turkey, and that the system implemented in İmralı is its source. Cigdem Kilicgun Ucar emphasised that the recognition of HTS by not recognising the will that emerged in North and East Syria is not in favour of the peoples in Syria, and stated that those who say that a solution to the Kurdish issue is not possible should be answered. Cigdem Kilicgun Ucar stated that it is necessary to fight for freedom and the will for a common life, and noted that the state had to see İmralı as an address.
Pointed out that they will talk about how to increase the demand for freedom, democracy and peace and how to strengthen Öcalan's hand, Cigdem Kilicgun Ucar added, "The democratic solution of the Kurdish issue demands an effort to offer a free and equal life to the peoples living in this country, to the labourers living in this country, to the women living in this country. Therefore, our main goal will be to enlarge the future of the peoples living in this country and this geography together with ourselves, a struggle in which the people are the subjects, in other words, the democratic politics that we have not given up on."
