SÊRT - Speaking at the protest against the will usurpation, Sêrt Municipality Co-Mayor Sofya Alağaş, who was replaced by a trustee, said that the trustee turned the municipality into a police station.
The protests against the dismissal of Sêrt (Siirt) Municipality Co-Mayors Sofya Alağaş and Mehmet Kaysi by the Ministry of Labour and the appointment of trustees in their place continue on the 7th day. A statement was made in front of the municipality against the appointment of a trustee. Sêrt Municipality Co-Mayors Sofya Alağaş and Mehmet Kaysi, council members, DEM Party Sêrt MP Sabahat Erdoğan Sarıtaş, representatives of political parties and non-governmental organisations in Sêrt as well as many citizens attended the protest.
Sofia Alağaş, the dismissed co-mayor of Sêrt Municipality, said that the municipality has been under occupation for 7 days and stated that the service building of the municipality has been turned into a police station. Reminding that municipality workers were dismissed by the trustee, Sofya Alağaş stated that they will continue to express the unlawfulness of the trustee.
DEM Party MP Sabahat Erdoğan Sarıtaş said, "We said we would make the municipality a house of the people, we made it a house of the people. But today we see that since the first day they have turned this place into a police station with thousands of forces. Yesterday, our friends wanted to enter the municipality, but they were prevented from doing so. Sebahat Erdoğan Sarıtaş emphasised that they would continue their struggle.
Drawing attention to the solution discussions, Sabahat Erdoğan Sarıtaş said, "On one side there are trustees, on the other side they talk about peace. We want equal life for the Kurdish people, for the society in Turkey. We will create a peaceful society where women and children are not slaughtered, where the economy is high and democracy advances with our struggle. Until that day, we will both discuss freedom and peace and we will struggle. We will stand against those who do not recognise the reality of the Kurdish people. We will fight against those who do not accept the will, culture and identity of the Kurdish people."
Sabahat Erdoğan Sarıtaş said that the trustees were misogynistic and continued as follows: "For a peaceful, democratic future, all forces and organisations should stand against both the trustees and all unlawfulness. We can build a peaceful life together. This is not far away. Let us shoulder the people resisting and paying the price in Rojava. We are the voice of women who are murdered, of children who are harassed, we stand by those whose will and culture are not recognised, we are their voice. Our voice is always growing. We believe that peace is definitely ours. We will succeed. The plunderers, those who do not recognise the law will leave. We know this very well. Success is ours."
The statement ended with the slogans "Bijî berxwedana Sêrt'ê (Long live resistance of Siirt)" and "Trustees will go, peoples will come".
