TRABZON - İmdat Bingöl, a 24-year prisoner in Trabzon Beşikdüzü Type T Closed Prison, has been on hunger strike for 1 month to be removed from the cell where he has been placed for 2 months.

It was learned that İmdat Bingöl (43) who is being held in solitary confinement for 2 months in Trabzon prison has been on hunger strike for a month to be removed from the cell and sent to a ward. Bingöl who was transferred to Trabzon prison against his will from Gümüşhane Type T 2 months ago, told about what happened to his brother Nazmi Bingöl on the phone. Nazmi Bingöl, stating that this transfer was an exile, said: "They sent him to Trabzon a month ago and put him in solitary confinement. My brother asked the prison administration when will he be transferred to a ward from solitary confinement he is being held for a week and why he is being held there. They told him this was a normal procedure and that he will be sent to a ward soon. However, after a month has passed in cell, my brother objected to the situation. He was held in solitary confinement for more than a year in Gümüşhane prison too. This is unusual and cruel punishment."

Explaining the reason why his brother was held in solitary confinement in Gümüşhane, Bingöl said: "My brother was in Patnos prison before Gümüşhane. They told him that he was going to manage the hunger strikes there and put him in a cell." Bingöl, recalling the hunger strike of the prisoners demanding the termination of the isolation on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, said: "He has been under pressure till then. He told us that he has been hunger striking for almost a month. He was speaking to me in a rush. I guess he was worried they would cut the phonecall. Upon the threats he recieved from the prison administration, my brother said 'I will go on a hunger strike if you plan to kill me anyway'. We are worried for his life."
