ANKARA- ÖHD lawyers, who visited the prison for the condition of Yakup Brukanlı, who set his body on fire against the severe isolation, stated that although Brukan had second-degree burns, he was treated in the prison infirmary instead of being taken to the hospital.
The indefinite rotating hunger strikes started on October 4 in Konya Ereğli High Security Prison by 39 prisoners against the increasing rights violations and severe isolation conditions continues. One of the prisoners on hunger strike, Yakup Brukanli from Rojhilat, set his body on fire on October 28 against the severe isolation conditions.
According to the information we obtained from the lawyers of the Association for Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD) Mersin Branch, who visited the prison, 39 prisoners remained in cells in the High Security Prison, where Brukan was exiled. Lawyers stated that Brukan set his body on fire at around 10:00 am on October 28 in response to the isolation imposed on the prisoners.
BRUKAN IS NOT TAKEN TO HOSPITAL
Lawyers gave the following information about Brukan: “There is a second degree burn. The whole of the right arm and the waist were burned, the fingers of both hands were burned. He has burns on his waist with flesh showing. He cannot use his right arm. On the same day, he was brought back to prison and put in a cell. Osman Pinç is held with him in the same cell for caring for him. He is not taken to the hospital, he is treated in the infirmary. Handcuffs are put on while being taken to treatment. There is a risk of infection.”
Finally, the lawyers noted that Brukan was not allowed to meet with his family due to the disciplinary punishment.
